Scientific Programme Committee
The Scientific Programme Committee determines the scientific programme for the annual Euroanaesthesia meeting, monitors the process of the scientific programme at the Euroanaesthesia meeting, assesses abstracts submitted for presentation at the meeting, selects the winners and awards the prizes for the Best Abstracts Prize Competition, publishes the Refresher Course Lectures Book and carries out other functions as decided by the ESA Board of Directors.
The ESA Board of Directors through proposals from the Nominations Committee appoints the Chairman of the Scientific Programme Committee. S/he also sits ex officio on the Annual Meetings Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee and theResearch Committee of the Academic Affairs Committee.
The Chairperson’s term of office is 3 years. A new chairperson is appointed one year before the incumbent demits office, and this new person spends one year as deputy before becoming the Chairperson.
The number of subcommittees is determined by the need for representation of the scientific fields that contribute to the annual meeting. The Scientific Programme Committee Chairperson makes proposals for changes in the number of subcommittees to the Board of the ESA, for consideration and approval.
The members of a subcommittee propose each Subcommittee Chairperson. The term of office is 3 years, renewable by election only, for a maximum of one additional year, if necessary.
Any member of a subcommittee with more than two years’ service can be nominated, or self nominate, for the position of Subcommittee Chairperson, with the support of one other member of the committee. Thus the maximum term of service on a subcommittee including being its chair is 3 + 1 + 2 = 6 years.
Each Scientific Programme Subcommittee has a maximum of seven members including the chairperson. Suggestions for membership can be made by members of the subcommittee or by other active members of the ESA.
Each Scientific Programme Subcommittee member can serve for a period of 3 years, which can be extended annually if necessary for up to three further years. No subcommittee member can serve for more than six years, either as a member or Chairperson. This period can be served in addition to any period served as Chairperson of the Scientific Programme Subcommittee.
Qualified individuals who wish to join one of the subcommittees listed below should send their application and CV to the Chairman of the subcommittee.
