Individual Membership

Categories of ESA individual membership 

There are five categories of ESA individual membership:

  1. Active member: Specialist anaesthetists working in the clinical practice and residing in Europe.
  2. Affiliate member: MD specialists, nurses, technicians, scientists, any person working in, or interested in anaesthesia, and anaesthesiologists residing outside Europe. 
  3. EE Active member from the EE countries: Reduced rates due to unfavourable exchange of currencies.
  4. Trainee member: MD, recognised in training in an anaesthesiology residency programme accredited by a national governmental office or by a national board of anaesthesiology. Applicants for trainee membership must enclose a letter from the Director of the training programme stating the programme termination date, otherwise the rate for affiliate member will be applied. 
  5. Retired member or Member with disabilities.

Special rates are offered to trainees, retirees, the handicapped, and anaesthesiologists residing in former east bloc countries. Membership is open to anaesthesiologists from around the world.

Benefits of ESA Membership

  • ESA members receive a free subscription and online access to the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (published monthly + supplements), and online access to Current opinion in Anaesthesiology and Current Opinion in Critical Care Medicine.
  • They are entitled to substantial discounts on the registration fee to the Euroanaesthesia Congress.
  • ESA members receive the ESA Newsletter four times a year.
  • Upon presentation of a copy of their membership card to the publishers ESA members also benefit from reduced subscription rates to the following scientific journals / book publishers: Anesthesiology News, Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Anesthesia & Analgesia, British Journal of Anaesthesia, International Journal of Acute Pain Management, Current Opinion in Anesthesiology, Le Practicien en Anesthesie, Der Anaesthesist, Current Anaesthesia & Critical Care and Hodder Education.
  • The ESA Grant Programmes (Research Grant, Young Teacher's Grant and Fellowship programmes) are open to ESA members only.
  • ESA members also have full access to all features of the ESA internet site.
